Winter Onsen & Snow Retreat (Nagano)

3-Day Winter Onsen & Snow Retreat (Nagano)

Enjoy a winter retreat to the snowy towns of Yudanaka and Shibu Onsen. Highlights include the Snow Monkeys of Jigokudani, hot spring street strolls, onsen-hopping, and regional cuisine in a tranquil mountain setting.

This three-day winter escape offers a serene and photogenic retreat into the Japanese Alps. Centered around Yudanaka and Shibu Onsen, guests enjoy iconic cold-season experiences: soaking in open-air baths as snow falls gently around them, strolling through centuries-old hot spring towns, and visiting the famed snow monkeys of Jigokudani. Optional activities like skiing or snowshoeing make this an ideal soft-adventure program for couples, families, or wellness-focused travelers. Perfect as a stand-alone getaway or a winter extension to a longer Japan itinerary.

Day 1 – Arrival in Yudanaka & Snowy Onsen Town Charm
Depart from Tokyo or Karuizawa via private vehicle or scenic train. Arrive in the peaceful Yudanaka or Shibu Onsen area and check in to your luxury ryokan, featuring mountain views and open-air hot spring baths.
Stroll through Shibu Onsen’s stone-paved alleys, lined with nostalgic inns and traditional bathhouses. Dress in yukata and enjoy a slow-paced onsen-hopping experience or visit a sake brewery for tasting. End the day with a multi-course kaiseki dinner featuring local wild vegetables, river fish, and warming nabe.
Overnight: Kokuya Ryokan or Sakaeya (Yudanaka)

Day 2 – Snow Monkeys & Optional Ski or Snow Walk

• Guided snowshoe walk through nearby forests and frozen streams
• Footbath café visit or relaxation at your ryokan's private onsen
